When Ayesha Shafi, my good friend and Program Director of Radio Azad, came forward with this song of Atif Aslam and Hadiqa Kyani for me to sing, she had no inkling that I would actually persuade her to sing the lady’s part herself. A couple of takes and she was ready to go like a la Nazia Hassan!! I found the guitar riffs pretty interesting and background strings heavenly to work with. I am sure that you will agree with me when you hear the envelope.

True to the definition of ghazal that is a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain, this song is about a man who loves a woman and expresses his love for her. The woman, in turn, is not sure of herself at this juncture to reciprocate due to her past relationship.

How some songs capture one’s attention is some timing. I was drawn to this ghazal during a fleeting mention of it in one of my concerts and after listening to the original version of Jagjit Singh, I just wanted to re-create and sing in my style. My guitar synthesizer helped me in producing the flowing Strings Ensemble sounds.

This one is a sad and philosophical song from the Hindi movie “Safar”. It is picturised on an actor terminally dying from cancer and laments about the journey of life that no one understands or knows. This is a devotional song that I recorded recently that is in glory of God in the form of Lord Ganesha. The hymn is in Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, no longer really spoken, but which is the mother of most of the languages in India and mostly chanted during auspicious occasions and ceremonies.
I feel that the music composition has the effect of timelessness and eternity to it. It has a good blend of Western and Indian styles.
